covid & whiteness

Look, of course we have our own shitty irresponsible people who ignore social distancing and lie about where they've been when asked for containment and tracking purposes. Of course there are bad people of every race, I'm not even talking about morality. But the fact that there's a social climate in white-majority countries where people feel justified in openly flouting measures meant to protect them and others? That enough people feel this way for it to be a movement, or noticeable social phenomenon? That's the part that scares me. What forces lead so many people to think it's acceptable to act this way?

@ljwrites Answer (or better: solve) that and you'll rule the world.

@dredmorbius too much responsibility for me, I'll abdicate to you.

@ljwrites I'm gonna go with..... the psychological effect of centuries of colonialism?

Trying to think of my stupidest most ignorant life moments and what powered them.

covid & whiteness

@ljwrites It's really disheartening. If white people have a problem mitigating harm with something as easy to do as wearing masks, how can we expect them to work on things which take way more effort and involvement on their part.
