Eight of Swords

Sometimes a large presence, visible personal force, will not get you where you need to go or out of whatever you need to escape. Take up the exact amount of space you need, and leave yourself as much room to move and adapt as you can.

You don't have to be stuck. Sometimes you just have to be small, and careful.

Non-Black fedi please consider this a direct appeal to show that you actually support Black liberation in a meaningful way. Our first post on here about got 59 books (linked below). We were kinda surprised that it was that popular & took that as a sign of interest/support. Please do something to help shore up this project's defenses so that it can survive, grow, & thrive rather than just be remembered after it's gone. If you would like to support in more direct ways than those suggested above or in the post please check out 400and1's social media to find out what they need most at this time.

A group of Black revolutionaries have started an autonomous zone named in , . They've already done a lot to fight by organizing material support & political education for the local Black community. It's a real glimmer of hope for what has otherwise been a shitty .

People's language and attitudes towards people with brain injuries shape the reality we live in, and that reality includes the impact on our MATERIAL LIVES. Using brain injury as an insult implies that people with brain injuries DESERVE lesser status and this higher cost to live.

The real challenge is teaching virtual classes at a U.S. community college is that students have less space to focus. When they came to campus for classes, they got a brief respite from the demands of work & family. Now, taking classes at home, so many of my students are bombarded with responsibilities WHILE taking classes, writing papers, & doung research. Students struggle to make employers & family members understand the demands of virtual classes.

It'll do what you ask, but it will do it excessively.

bad leftist takes, rant

There's still this troubling attitude on the left that it's valid to criticise people on the right for arbitrary qualities that have nothing to do with their actual beliefs because we have to 'attack on all fronts' or whatever. But that's like...such bs if you feel the need to do that in a way that's going to hurt marginalised people. Making fun of a bad person's appearance, style, social skills, education, etc. is only leaving the door open for racism, sexism, queerphobia, ableism, classism, fatphobia, religious intolerance, and all the other forms of bigotry you're supposed to be fighting. If you don't care about the fallout of your meaningless snarky comments, that means your leftism is all about self-aggrandisation instead of helping people uplift each other out of oppression. Which kinda makes it shit. You can't 'attack on all fronts', you gotta put in the worthwhile effort to be a decent person.

I planted so many grape hyacinths that not all of them are even buried and they do not care

Wheel of Fortune

If you are counting on stasis to be happy, if you are waiting for things to stop changing, if you are waiting for entropy to reverse itself and for the past to unhappen or the future never arrive

I don't know what to tell you except, "stop that." Everything passes. Sometimes this is really stressful and sometimes it's incredibly comforting but its reality doesn't rest on how much we like it this time.

I warned you about wheels, bro. Change is never going to stop keep happening constantly.

white supremacy & misogynoir in U.S. suffrage movement

"In 1919, the executive committee of the Georgia Democratic Party adopted a resolution allowing women to vote in the Democratic white primary. Written by Emily MacDougald, the resolution passed 24-1. It allowed for a handful of white Atlanta women to vote in their first local election. Women of color were driven away under threat of physical violence. When black suffragists in the Jim Crow South sought help from their white counterparts, they were told that the disenfranchisement of African American women was an issue of race, not of gender, and therefore beyond the movement’s purview."

If your feminism is not intersectional it will be bullshit.

You know people can see you when you do things that impact them, right? Nobody is ever actually as slick as they think they are, and you are no exception.

trauma and crystals and magical empathy

Are you an empath, or do you have trauma-induced hypervigilance and an unexamined fear of what'll happen if ppl around you are allowed to manage their own feelings and reactions?

Maybe if therapy were accessible, fewer ppl would be trying to manage their trauma with black tourmaline.

America’s covid response has failed in no small part because, from the very beginning, people have been looking for the Product to Buy to fix it — hand sanitizer, masks, plexiglass shields, disinfecting wipes — while maintaining the exact same lifestyle uninterrupted, without any consideration for what actually spreads the disease. every problem must, by rule, have some sort of consumption-based solution
