tips for "LB" "Last Boost" posts

did you know that, at least on Mastodon, if you reply to the post you boosted, but manually remove the original poster's @-handle, then write your "LB: my commentary here" post, you won't be spamming the original poster's notifications and someone reading your post can simply click into it and go up in the thread to see exactly what "LB" refers to. this way they don't have to scroll back on their TL or go to your TL to know what you're referencing

(I say "at least on Mastodon" because I don't know if pleroma/misskey/gotosocial/etc have the same behavior)

@balrogboogie oh good to know!!

tips for "LB" "Last Boost" posts

@balrogboogie I love when people 'LB post' because I hide boosts from most people to keep my timeline from overflowing, but someone talking about their boost always makes me want to check what they boosted.
Connecting the LB post to the boosted post would be super convenient.

@balrogboogie oh this is brilliant!

@balrogboogie The "LB" is only a hint here, right?

The post should appear as a thread anyway.

@morre well, it's an indicator that more context is needed for the post to make sense. even if you add the LB post to the thread, some UIs don't make it obvious that it's part of a thread. Like here, I've added a post to a thread, but in the UI it just looks like any other individual post. Adding the LB says "you need to find the last this user boosted in order to have the context," so by threading it you make that context easier to find

@balrogboogie only if readers could see the initial post anyway. I very often run into permissions differences that prevent me from accessing the thing being replied to.

@WizardOfDocs fair enough, permissions can be tricky
