The worst part about modern culture is knowing full well that if magic actually worked in any meaningful way, we'd just ruined it SUPER fast.

We are currently living in the great hat-less era. Every other phase of human history can be roughly categorized by the nature of the hats that are the norm. But not today, not since roughly the 50s where suddenly no one has been bothering wearing hats as part of every day fashion. You may see baseball / trucker hats in occasional use, but anything else would be a noticeable outlier. Many of the types of hat once popular would now get you mocked for being a weirdo if you dared don it.

I don't know what any of this means, and I don't know what prompted me to notice all of this.

D&D setting where most of the average villagers are mostly just apathetic to most of the cliches and adventure related affairs, mostly because it's boringly normal.

Like, every so often another dark wizard shows up on the outskirts of a calm farming village and he can't actually finish his dramatic speech because everyone listening keeps interrupting to try and figure out who it is under that ridiculous outfit. Turns out it's that one Emo teenager who got his hands on a wizard spell book 3 months ago from a traveling merchant and because his ego got ahead of him he completely failed to understand it before pulling this stunt so he just embarrasses himself and gets dragged away by his grandmother.

Every so often the local tavern hears about a world ending threat, but because no one actually bothers keeping track it just prompts a complicated discussion trying to untangle people's memories of the last few times it's happened. No one actually panics.

The Defenistrator. As long as there is a window to throw their problem through, doing so will have interesting results. Doesn't matter if it's floor 50 of a skyscraper or a random display piece at a hardware store.

Occasional reminder that "Comrade" is a first person singular.

Them: "I like when things are black and white!"

the fact that we still get forms by email, print them, sign them, scan them, and email them back, is an enormous failure of our tech (and possibly legal?) culture

@MrControl neoliberal society demands that we get in and out of vehicles on a frequent basis, and also built vehicles that don't have the space for big hats

You walk into my shop, and look at my wares, hemming an hawing.
"I want a patch that showcases how gay I am, but in a way that will really piss off assimilationists." You request.
"Say no more, sib." I say, pulling this fresh piece out from under my counter. "I got you."

it's a welsh thing, it started as a welsh course only (i can confirm it's very good!) but they now offer , , , , and !! which is pretty neat, right?

Anarchists know that a long period of education must precede any great fundamental change in society, hence they do not believe in vote begging, nor political campaigns, but rather in the development of self-thinking individuals.

Ok but Humans are a omnivorous predator species in literally every other species that describes, a "Smile" would be a threat so why are we the exception?

fear of success

Nancy Green, a former enslaved woman, portrayed Aunt Jemima at 59 in the year 1893.

By 1900, she was replaced by another black woman after refusing to travel to France for an exhibition. The second woman was labeled the 'original' Aunt Jemima by the company and Nancy Green was largely forgotten.

Nancy Green was buried in an unmarked grave after her death and it wasn't found until 2015. Quaker refused to fund a monument to place on her grave. They said Aunt Jemima is a fictional character.

Whatever you do, don't think about a Rinosorous in an appropriately big baby blue tutu with copious amounts of glitter.

I hope every Jewish person observing Yom Kippur is spiritually renewed for the coming year, and that everyone fasting has an easy fast.
